2. Describe the dataset. What kind of data does it contain?

This data set discusses about the characteristics of child care centres that serve children who are aged 0 to 5 in Canada from year 2021 to 2022. It provides data on child care centres in Canada in terms of geographic locations, type of care services, type of license, auspice (for-profit or not-for-profit), services provided (full-time, part-time, before/after-school care, evenings, weekends, overnights or flexible drop-in), enrolment, staffing situation, and mean hourly rate for child care staff.

3. Is there anything about your data that you don’t understand? (i.e.

what a column heading means). How will you find this out?

Among all the data, there are two column headings that I find difficult to understand: Number of employees providing direct care to children full time (mean) and Number of employees providing direct care to children part time (mean). I will check with ECE Registry and google other relevant information to find out what they mean.

4. What are some questions you hope to answer with your data? List at

Through this data set, I wish to answer the following questions:

(1) Which type of child care service is the most provided across Canada?

(2) Is there enough staff to meet the teacher-child ratio?

(3) What service type of child care is the most common in Canada?

(4) Which category of child care staff gets paid most?
